Find out how to work out the square metres of your room by clicking here.

This measuring guide is demonstrated using metres. However, it works equally as well for those who are more familiar with feet and inches. Using the

same principles as shown below, but using measurements in feet, you will soon discover how many square feet you have to cover.

How to measure square metres of a room

If your room is a rectangular or square shape just measure the length and the breadth of the room. Then multiply them together and there’s your answer!

So for example, if your room is 4.6 metres long and 3.4 metres wide then you just make the following calculation.

how to measure square metres of a room

4.6m X 3.4m = 15.64 Square Metres

The best way to measure other less straight-forward areas, like hallways etc, is to think of them as a collection of squares and measure them as such.

So for example, if your area is a more difficult space to measure, break it down into squares and make the following calculations.

how to measure square metres

Part A:   3.0 X 2.0 = 6.0 square metres

Part B:   3.4 X 1.2 = 4.08 square metres

Then add the two totals together:   6.0 + 4.08 = 10.08 Square Metres

TIP – A person of average height taking an extra-long stride, without being uncomfortable, should cover 1 metre with each step. So, if you are not

fully confident that you have measured your room correctly using the tape measure, as a double check, stride across the room counting how many

steps it takes and compare it with your measurement.

Laminate Flooring Maintenance - How to Maintain your new Laminate Floor

One of the biggest benefits of Harbour Oak Grey laminate flooring is its easy maintenance. Here are some tips to help keep your new laminate floor looking better for longer. The first thing you should do after having your laminate floor installed is to put felt pads underneath furniture legs to protect your flooring and prevent scratching.

With regards to cleaning your laminate floor, you should first remove loose dirt using either a broom or vacuum cleaner. This is important as you don’t want to be just moving the dirt around the floor when mopping.  Then you should mop the floor with clean warm water. Make sure the mop is well rung out so that it is damp and not wet. You may want to add a specialist laminate cleaning product to the water or indeed another excellent tip for leaving a streak free finish on your floor would be to add a little vinegar to the water.

A final wipe of the floor afterwards with a dry micro-fibre mop or cloth will also help to ensure no moisture has been left behind and a help prevent streaking as well.

Laminate Floor Fitting Tips – How to fit a laminate floor

You want your new Harbour Oak Grey laminate floor to look perfect. So here are some of the basics when it comes to making sure your laminate floor is laid properly. Harbour Oak Grey laminate flooring will have manufacturer's fitting instructions in the packs and it is important to read these if you have any queries when installing this specific laminate floor. However, some really good general laminate floor fitting tips include -

1. Sweep or vacuum the floor to make sure it is clean and dust free.

2. Make sure the sub floor is as level as possible, filling in any holes with self-levelling compound if necessary.

3. Then roll out the underlay to cover the entire floor.

4. Now you can begin to fit your new laminate floor, following the manufacturer’s instructions enclosed, being sure to leave an expansion gap around the edge.

5. Finish off around the edge of the room with skirting boards or Beading Scotia.

6. Complete your new floor at doorways using some of our Door Trim Transition Bars.
