Find out how to work out the square metres of your room by clicking here.

This measuring guide is demonstrated using metres. However, it works equally as well for those who are more familiar with feet and inches. Using the same principles as shown below, but using measurements in feet, you will soon discover how many square feet you have to cover.

How to measure square metres of a room

If your room is a rectangular or square shape just measure the length and the breadth of the room. Then multiply them together and there’s your answer!

So for example, if your room is 4.6 metres long and 3.4 metres wide then you just make the following calculation.

how to measure square metres of a room

4.6m X 3.4m = 15.64 Square Metres

The best way to measure other less straight-forward areas, like hallways etc, is to think of them as a collection of squares and measure them as such.

So for example, if your area is a more difficult space to measure, break it down into squares and make the following calculations.

how to measure square metres

Part A:   3.0 X 2.0 = 6.0 square metres

Part B:   3.4 X 1.2 = 4.08 square metres

Then add the two totals together:   6.0 + 4.08 = 10.08 Square Metres

TIP – A person of average height taking an extra-long stride, without being uncomfortable, should cover 1 metre with each step. So, if you are not

fully confident that you have measured your room correctly using the tape measure, as a double check, stride across the room counting how many

steps it takes and compare it with your measurement.

Colosseum PEC Mid Oak Flooring

Colossuem PEC (Precision Engineered Construction) is a sister product of both laminate, as it's rigid, and LVT, as it retains all the benefits of LVT, like being warm, quiet underfoot and waterproof. It's very easy to cut and fit by hand, although it can also be cut by machine if preferred.

Colosseum PEC comes in a pack containing 10 pieces with a total coverage of 2.15m2. Each plank is 177mm wide, 1213mm long and is 6.5mm thick. It comes with a 25 Year Residential Wear Warranty or a 15 Year Commercial Wear Warranty.

The integrated cork backing is manufactured from sustainable sources and the whole system is 100% recyclable and waterproof. The backing also helps Colosseum PEC to self-level on uneven subfloors (maximum 4.75mm over 2m) and provides additional insulation and warmth.

The boards have V-Groove bevelled edges on all four sides, adding depth and realism to the individual planks, which give the authentic look and definition of a real wood floor. Colosseum PEC is fitted together using a clic to lock system which requires no glue, meaning easy installation as no tools are required to activate the lock, but using a rubber pallet could come in handy for larger areas.

LVT Flooring Maintenance - How to Maintain your new Luxury Vinyl Floor

One of the biggest benefits to Luxury Vinyl Flooring is its easy maintenance. Here are some tips to help keep your new LVT looking better for longer. The first thing you should do after having your LVT installed is to put felt pads underneath furniture legs to protect your flooring and prevent scratching.

With regards to cleaning your LVT, you should first remove loose dirt using either a broom or vacuum cleaner. This is important as you don’t want to be just moving the dirt around the floor when mopping.  Then you should mop the floor with clean warm water. You may want to add a multi prupose cleaning product to the water or indeed another excellent tip for leaving a streak free finish on your floor would be to add a little vinegar to the water.

LVT Fitting Tips – How to fit a luxury vinyl tile floor

You want your new LVT floor to look perfect. So here are some of the basics when it comes to making sure your laminate floor is laid properly. This LVT range will have manufacturer's fitting instructions in the packs and it is important to read these if you have any queries when installing this specific LVT. However, some really good general laminate floor fitting tips include -

1. Sweep or vacuum the floor to make sure it is clean and dust free.

2. Make sure the sub floor is as level as possible, filling in any holes with self-levelling compound if necessary.

3. Then, if an underlay is required or desired for your job, roll it out to cover the entire floor.

4. Now you can begin to fit your new LVT, following the manufacturer’s instructions enclosed, being sure to leave an expansion gap around the edge which can then be hidden with skirting boards or beading trim.

5. Complete your new floor at doorways using some of our Door Trim Transition Bars.
